Drugs in sport: with great influence comes great responsibility
But fair or not, of course athletes are role models. It’s hard to deny they don’t have great influence. And, like it or not, with this influence comes great responsibility.
Why athletes can never escape their status as role models
Once players see their responsibilities, they can begin to accept them. Ability on a sports field has never qualified anyone to be a role model
Can we once and for all discard the fiction that athletic ability alone makes anyone remotely qualified to be anyone's off-field role model?
