Rebuilding after the Kaikoura Earthquake

SH1 was closed, the railway line destroyed, commercial crayfishing stopped and the Coastal Pacific train and freight services were cancelled. Businesses that rely on tourism were forced to shut down. Kaikōura’s connection with the outside world was destroyed.
