The first meeting for the 2020 Personal Project will take place on Thursday 20 February at 8.25am
Bring your bright ideas and passion for learning.
Think about a topic you would like to research that will lead you to develop a goal linked to a global context.
The Personal Project course is available on CANVAS.
Use this LibGuide for further information.
Over the summer break think about what really excites you.
Where does your passion lie?
What do you feel strongly about and why?
Talk to friends and family about what topic you might make your project about.
Make a note of all your ideas. This will be the beginning of your Process Journal and will provide an example of your thinking skills.
Happy Holidays!
Please arrange to meet with your mentor on or before August 8 to sign your Academic Honesty form and submit your final report.
There can be no late submissions.
Product Submission: Thursday 25 July C202
Please take your product to C202 on Thursday 25 July at any of the following times:
Your product must be clearly labelled with your name and pastoral group.
Mrs Cain will be at C202 during these times.
Do not take your product to your mentor.
Draft Report: Thursday 25 July
Please submit your draft report to your mentor by the end of lunchtime.
Please negotiate with your mentor as to whether they prefer a digital or hard copy.
A reminder to submit your Online Planning Form by the end of Term 1, so that you can use the holidays to make a start on the research phase of your project.
Use a wide range of sources, online (videos, sites, news articles, podcasts etc), personal (interviews, surveys, telephone conversations, emails) and visits to galleries, museums, parks etc.
Even though you may change or refine your goal, do not discard anything from your journal. It is not meant to be 'pretty'. It is meant to reflect your process, your thinking, your change of mind and the reasons why you change things.
Always explain the reasons why you change and alter your plans and write about it in your Process Journal.
Work with your mentor to complete the Online Planning Form together.
Duplicate your responses on the hard copy contained in your Project Wallet and include in your Process Journal.
If you are unable to answer some of the questions because you have yet to make decisions, answer as best you can.
Your Goal should be highly challenging to you. Remember to use verbs in your goal statement.
Choose the Global Context and particular strand that best fits your goal and make it connect throughout the project.
Finalise the topic of Investigation - what you're going to research and explore the guide for the necessary tools to help you research.
Use the term break to begin your research.
The Project is not only personal
Students work independently, exploring a topic they love, BUT, it should have an impact on others (teaching others, raising awareness of an issue, service, action, etc.)
The Product/Outcome is not as important as the topic
Students should not make a decision about their product for the first few months.
They should research first.
If a student wants to learn about plastic in the ocean...their end product could be anything from reusable cutlery to a social media campaign.
Students need to not make a decision about their product/outcome straight away.
